New Facade Museum for Glass + Bijouterie Jablonec
After exemplary preparations by our secretariat with Christina Perrin, our members met on Wednesday 12th at the Glass and Bijouterie Jewellery Museum in Jablonec n. N. The board met at 3.00 pm. The group had the opportunity to study the important collection before the meeting began. At 5.30 p.m. the director of the museum, Mrs Milada Valeckova, and our president, Mrs. Helena Koenigsmarkova, welcomed those present and opened the ordinary general meeting (see minutes). Reference was made to the design of the façade by Tereza Svachova. Evening meal and overnight stay took place at the Hotel Na Basta.
Thursday 13th Bus trip to Preciosa-Ornella in Desna, with amazingly large industrial production of glass rods and tubes, which are finally processed into glass beads (rocailles, seed beads) in 82 different colours. Our tour guides took us through the production, from red-hot glass strands, to cutting and fusing into rocailles. Afterwards, a scenic drive to the Sklarna Harrachov glassworks in Harrachov, guided tour of the glassworks, the famous dynamo-driven grinding shop, museum, and shop. Lunch in the glasswork’s brewery. Continue to Ponikla with the only factory in Rautis, which, like Harrachov, is now under UNESCO protection and produces silvered glass beads. The excellent guide explains and demonstrates the various stages of production.
Continue again via Jablonec to Novy Bor to the Parkhotel Morris and evening with a guided tour of the IGS

Friday 14th Travel to Kamenicky Senov and visit with demonstration in the Jilek glassworks, with a coffee break at the old railway station. It was inspiring to see a glassworks with a full team, the director Lukas Polak is fully committed. Then up to the oldest glass school in the world with a guided tour by director Pavel Kopriva, who saved the school with his team from being shut down. Exhibition of students’ work, visit to the workshops. Here then the reported lectures (separate description).
Departure to Skalice to TGK of Jaroslav Svacha, the absolute specialist for the processing of glass fusing, in co-operation with the company Lasvit he has huge electric furnaces for melting and hardening safety glass. In Novy Bor, two glassworkers of Ondre Novotny, son of the recently deceased master craftsman Petr Novotny, demonstrate the production of a chandelier glass arm using the original 18th century technique at the Ajeto furnace. We visit the Lasvit headquarters in the old technical school building, which is now known as the “Glass House”, covered with glass plates by TGK. This is followed by a guided tour of the splendidly renovated house of Petra Matela’s SAKS (Sklarsky Atelier) with glass painters, and creations for delivery, for example to Lobmeyr in Vienna and all over the world. Followed by a lavish party with food and drinks in the garden. Service and musical entertainment by Petra’s twins.
Petra had a new tribute to Stefan and Peter Rath installed in the house, and unveiled two engraved glass panes in a door to the upper rooms.

Saturday 15th Departure to Reichstadt Castle (Zakupy) with a guided tour through the rooms with particularly delicate wooden chandeliers. The blue and white porcelain chandelier with glass beads was of particular interest. The castle came to the Habsburgs via the Saxe-Lauenburg family and became the domain of Napoleon’s son, the Duke of Reichstadt. Emperor Ferdinand I lived here after his abdication and later the heir to the throne Franz Ferdinand, who married Countess Chotek in the chapel in 1900.
Drive back to Kamenicky Senov via the former Kinsky mirror factory in Sloup. The “Lustrfest 300 years of chandeliers from Steinschönau” is celebrated in the town with lectures in the cinema, tours of the school, Prousek company, Jilek, glass museum, music and stalls.
In the garden of the house of the Lukas Polak family No. 294, built in 1810 (which until a few weeks ago was the house of Peter Rath and his Czech company). Beer party with food under the second largest tulip tree in the Czech Republic.

Later, many of the group went to the theater to watch a slide show featuring successful graduates from the Glass School, who went on to become well-known glass and lighting designers. As we were leaving, a spontaneous invitation from Mrs. Lesarova-Roubíčková led to a visit to the nearby Atelier from René Roubíček & Miluše Roubíčková, where we able to view a large collection of their work.
The participants will remember this successful annual excursion. We would like to thank our partners in the Czech Republic, in particular Petra Matela, Helena Koenigsmarkova, Jaroslav Svacha, Lukas Polak, Pavel Kopriva, the glassblowers from Ajeto, the secretariat with Christina Perrin and everyone else who contributed to the success of the event.

BERICHT Light & Glass zur Jahresexkursion und zu Vorträgen vom 12.-15. Juni 2024 in Nord-Böhmen CZ
Nach vorbildlichen Vorbereitungen unseres Sekretariates mit Christina Perrin kamen am Mittwoch 12. unsere Mitglieder im Glas- und Bijouterie-Museum in Gablonz (Jablonec n. N.) zusammen. Der Vorstand traf sich um 15.oo Uhr. Die Gruppe hatte Gelegenheit die bedeutende Sammlung zu studieren. Um 17.3o begrüßte die Direktorin des Museums Frau Milada Valeckova und unsere Präsidentin Dr. Helena Koenigsmarkova die Anwesenden und leitete die ordentliche Generalversammlung ein (siehe Protokoll). Hingewiesen wurde auf die Gestaltung der Fassade von Tereza Svachova. Abend und Nächtigung im Hotel Na Basta.
Yearly Meeting in Jablonec
Donnerstag 13. Fahrt mit Bus zu Preciosa-Ornella nach Desna, mit erstaunlich großer industrieller Herstellung von Glasstäben und Röhren, die schließlich zu Glasperlen (Rocaillen, Seed-Beads) in 82 verschiedenen Farben verarbeitet werden. Unser Tour Guides führte uns durch die Produktion, von glühend heißen Glasstränge, zum Schneiden und verschmelzen zu Rocaillen. Anschließend landschaftlich schöne Fahrt zur Glashütte Neuwelt in Harrachsdorf (Harrachov), Führung der Hütte, der berühmten Schleiferei mit Dynamoantrieb, Museum und Shop. Mittag in der Hüttenbrauerei. Weiterfahrt nach Ponikla mit einziger Fabrik Rautis, die nun wie Harrachov unter UNESCO Schutz steht, und innenversilberte Glasperlen produziert. Die exzellente Führerin erklärt uns und demonstriert die verschiedenen Abschnitte von der Herstellung.
Weiterfahrt nochmals über Gablonz nach Haida (Novy Bor) ins Parkhotel Morris und Abend mit Führung durch die IGS-Sammlung im Museum bei Ajeto und Nachtessen im dazugehörenden Restaurant, mit Blick auf die Glasöfen.
Freitag 14. Fahrt nach Steinschönau (Kamenicky Senov) und Besichtigung, Vorführung in der Glashütte Jilek, mit Kaffeepause beim alten Bahnhof. Es war inspirierende eine Glashütte mit einem vollen Team sehen zu dürfen, der Direktor Lukas Polak ist voll im Einsatz. Anschließend hinauf in die älteste Glasfachschule der Welt mit Führung durch Direktor Pavel Kopriva der die Schule mit seinem Team vor einer Auflösung gerettet hatte. Ausstellung von Schülerarbeiten, Besuch der Werkstätten. Hier dann die gemeldeten Vorträge (eigene Beschreibung im Anschluss).

Abfahrt nach Skalice zu TGK von Jaroslav Svacha, dem absoluten Spezialisten für die Verarbeitung von Glasfusing, in Kooperation mit Firma Lasvit hat er riesiger elektrischer Öfen zum Schmelzen und härten von Sicherheitsglas. In Haida, Vorführung am Ofen bei Ajeto von zwei Mitarbeitern von Ondre Novotny, Sohn des jüngst verstorbenen Meisters Petr Novotny mit Herstellung eines Luster-Glasarms in der Originaltechnik des 18. Jhdt. Wir besuchen die Zentrale der Firma Lasvit im alten Fachschulgebäude das von TGK über und über mit Glasplatten belegt nun als das “Glashaus” berühmt ist. Anschließende Führung durch das prachtvoll renovierte Haus der SAKS (Sklarsky Atelier) von Petra Matela mit Glasmalerinnen, und Verlagslieferungen etwa zu Lobmeyr nach Wien und in alle Welt. Im Garten anschließend großzügig eine Party mit Speisen und Getränken. Service und Musikalische Unterhaltung von Petras Zwillingen.
Eine Ehrung zur Stefan und Peter Rath hat Petra neu im Haus installieren lassen, mit einer Enthüllung von gravierten Glasscheiben in einer Tür zu den oberen Räumen.
The unveiling
Samstag 15. Abfahrt nach Schloss Reichstadt (Zakupy) mit Führung durch die Räume mit besonders zarten Holzlustern. Der blau/weiß Porzellanleuchter mit Glasperlen war von besonderem Interesse. Das Schloss kam über Familie Sachsen Lauenburg an Habsburg, wurde Domäne des Napoleon-Sohnes des Herzogs von Reichstadt. Hier wohnte nach seiner Abdankung Kaiser Ferdinand I. und später der Thronfolger Franz Ferdinand der in der Kapelle im Jahr 1900 Gräfin Chotek heiratete.
Fahrt zurück nach Steinschönau über die Spiegelfabrik Kinsky in Bürgstein (Sloup). In der Stadt wird das “Lustrfest 300 Jahre Luster aus Steinschönau” gefeiert mit Vorträgen im Kino, Führungen durch die Schule, Firma Prousek, Jilek, Glasmuseum, mit Musik und Verkaufsstände.
Im Garten des Hauses der Familie Lukas Polak Nr. 294 erbaut 1810 (das bis vor einigen Wochen noch das Haus von Peter Rath und seiner tschechischen Firma war). Bierparty mit Speisen unter dem zweitgrößten, in Blüte befindlichen Tulpenbaum in Tschechien.
Tereza Svachova führt uns mit Peter Rath zur Ruine Elias Palme 1905 und beschreibt an Hand von Plänen die in Gründung befindliche Stiftung “ELIASKA” die die ursprünglichen Gründungspläne von Light & Glass, hier ein Forschungszentrum mit Lustermuseum, Werkstätten, Pension und Restaurant realisieren wird.
Später gingen viele der Gruppe ins Theater, um eine Diashow mit erfolgreichen Absolventen der Glass School zu sehen, die später bekannte Glas- und Lichtdesigner wurden. Als wir gingen, führte eine spontane Einladung von Frau Lesarova-Roubíčková zu einem Besuch des nahen gelegenen Ateliers von René Roubicek & Miluše Roubíčková , wo wir eine große Sammlung ihrer Glaskreationen sehen konnten.
Die erfolgreiche Jahresexkursion wird den Teilnehmern in Erinnerung bleiben. Wir danken unseren Partnern in die Tschechei, insbesondere, Petra Matela, Helena Koenigsmarkova, Jaroslav Svacha, Lukas Polak, Pavel Kopriva, die Glasbläser von Ajeto, dem Sekretariat mit Christina Perrin und allen die sonst zum Erfolg beigetragen haben.
